I think you're absolutely right. I've been devoting most of my energy to discussing the security measures in place and not enough to stressing what an incredible educational tool online communities can be.

Of course, all our security measures will stay in place and students will be regularly reminded of them, but, next time i'm asked about security, i'll pull out both our “security checklist” and my data on improving test scores.

It allows the students to excel at their own rate with their modern language. Also, being a language student myself it does greatly assist students when they hear the language in an actual everyday situation. Using language in context, especially from it's country of origin, helps to learn the language more efficiently. I think this is an excellent use of technology.
